· to
interpret a frequency table · to
understand that theoretical outcomes are more closely approximated when the
number of trials are increased |
· At this site, students
play Marble Mania. There are four
colours to choose from. Students
choose 2 colours each, making sure they have the same number of coloured
marbles each in the bag. The maximum
number of marbles they can put in a bag is 10. The maximum number of trials they can run is 500, but, if they
choose, they can accumulate them before deciding on the winner. They could make their total 10000 by
keying in 500 for the number of trials and repeatedly hitting the ‘run trial’
button. They analyse the frequency
table by interpreting the data for their (previously chosen) coloured
marbles. They should do this activity
a total of four times, each time moving forward on the board game accordingly
(2 places for a win, 1 place for tie).
(Some students might prefer to play around with the variables after
the first set of trials. Ensure
students clear trials before they start the next set.) |
