Resources

·       to work out the possible outcomes when two dice are thrown

Activity 18

·       Students will calculate how equal outcomes can be obtained from the possible totals when two dice are thrown.  Download the Excel file titled ‘Dice Totals’ to assist students with this task.  This is a scaffolding activity only.  Students don’t get to move on the board game.

·       Teacher note:  at the end of the above two student activities, students should understand they can combine dice totals to give each of the two players an equal chance, e.g. the totals 4, 5, 6 and 7 give them 18 chances out of 36 and the totals 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 give them 18 chances out of 36 (other combinations are also valid).
