Staff at Beenleigh State School all hold a strong commitment and dedication to the teaching of literacy and the attainment of high literacy standards for all students. As a result, the teaching of reading, writing and spelling form a large part of teaching periods during any teaching week. Students are taught reading in a variety of contexts. Guided Reading is a daily occurrence. Students are ability grouped and progress through reading levels, based on their readiness. 'Literacy' is embedded in all subjects. For example, students may be learing to write Procedural text in the context of a Science lesson. Students are taught to write using a variety of genres for a variety of purposes. A range of assessment tools are used regularly in order to inform teaching. Intervention strategies are provided for students requiring extra support. |
